COUNTY ELECTIONS
FOR VARIOUS OFFICES SEVERAL NEW MEMBERS SOME CLOSE POLLING For the contested scats in the Fata ngata County Council— in the Eparaima, and Patangata ridings; the Central Hawke’s Bay Power Board (Patangata County); the Napier HarBoard (part of the Patangata County County viz. Eparaima., Patangata, Oero, Tamumu, Mangatarata, and Pourerere ridings); and the Waipawa Hospital Board (Waipukurau County) there were fairly keen contests, more than usual interest being displayed in the polling. Several changes took place, viz., Mr J. D. Ormond displacing Mr H. M. Christie as one of the two councillors for the Eparaima riding, Mr A. W. S. Longley regaining a seat on the Power Board, vice Mr W. Malenoir a foundation member of that body; and Mr W. Matthews filling the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr L. M. Monckton from the Hospital Board. Crs. 11. Parsons (Epara - . <a and f’. H. White (deputy-chairman) for the Eparaima and Patangata ridings respectively; Messrs Chas. Pattison (County Chairman and ex-chairman of the Board) and Mfl Ryan, as Power Board members; and Mr H. R. Peacock to the Harbour Board we..’? all re-elect-ed. The polling districts are as follow: — To Messrs J. W. Elliott, H. P. Smart and R. B. Price, ihe principals at the main polling bow u a meed of praise is due for the expeditious handling of the polling returns. PA TA NGATA COUNTY EPARAIMA RIDING (Two Members)
Messrs Ormond and Parsons were elected. Mr. Christie loses his seat to Mr. Ormond. PATANGATA RIDING
Mr. White, sitting member, was reelected. CENTRAL H.B. POWER BOARD PATANGATA COUNTY REPRESENTATIVES (Three Members)
Messrs. Pattison, Ryan and Longley are returned. Mr. Malenoir loses his seat to Mr. Longley. WAI PAW A HOSPITAL BOARD WAIPUKURAU COUNTY MEMBER
Mr. Matthews is elected. Mr. L. M. Monckton, retiring member, did not seek re-election. NAPIER HARBOUR BOARD PATANGATA COUNTY SEAT The Patangata county representative on the Harbour Board (Mr. H. R. Peacock) retained his seat by a narrow majority of six votes over Mr
G. W. Warren. The polling was lighter this year than in 1929, the
numbers of votes recorded being 23 4. and 270 respectively. Mr. Warren polled 70 out of 100 votes at Otane, i but Mr. Peacock polled 28 out of 31 1 at Wanstead and 24 out of 2 7 at Waipukurau. The polling at the ' smaller booths was fairly even. |
