RAILWAY MISHAP

<s> CARRIAGE DERAILED ON MANAWATU LINE The strength of carriage couplings saved the New Plymouth-Wellington express from disaster when travelling along the stretch of track about a mile past the Ohan station yesterday afternoon. A rim came off a wheel of the front bogey of the fourth carriage, causing the coach to leave the track and bump heavily along the permanent way. Thoroughly alarmed passengers gripped their seats fearing the worst but hoping for the best. Fortunately the couplings held and the train was brought to a standstill on an embankment with a .16 foot fall on each side. The derailed carriage was quickly vacated. the occupants thankful that nothing more serious had eventuated.
