Returned Soldiers and Pensions
A strong protest against the Government’s action in reducing war and allied pensions was passed at the annual meeting of the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association, and a motion of appreciation to those members who had opposed the. proposals, irrespective of party, was carried. “If I had my way I would fix a tablet in the walls of the club room, showing on one side the bill’s supporters and on the other its opponents,” said Sir George Richardson.
Borough Councils Fraternise
Courtesy visits have been exchanged between the Levin and Marton Borough Councils, the return visit of the Levin councillors and staff taking place last month. The visitors were cordially welcomed by the Mayor of Marton (Mr F. Purnell) and conducted on a round of inspection of the borough. After the visitors had been entertained at luncheon a bowling tournament was held at which the home team proved successful.
