An idea of land values in the Taranaki district fifty years ago may be gathered from the results of an auction sale on March 26, 1881, Kvhcn 120 acres, at Kent road, sold for £2s 12s per acre and 300 acres in the same neighbourhood was knocked down at £2 12s 6d, but the sale was not completed until later. Eight sections in Gill street brought £205 and another section with cottage in the same street £65. Fifty acres at Huirangi sold for £2OO.
