Conditions at Napier Loan to Repair ’Quake Damage CLEARING OF DEBRIS PROCEEDS Temporary Buildings Spring-Up Reports from Napier state that there were three fairly violent, shocks felt, there between four and five o’clock this morning, followed by several minor tremors, but no fresh damage is reported. Wonderful work is being done in clearing the debris in both towns and some of the streets are now quite clear. Shops are springing up all over the business area and an effort is beingmade to control the erection of temporary premises. The Minister of Education, the Hon. H. Atmore, has made an interesting statement concerning the care of children from the stricken areas, and placed the Child Welfare Branch of the Department of Education at. the assistance of distressed people. A report from the Government steamer Matai states that the work of taking soundings in the vicinity of Napier harbour approaches and had discovered a slight uplift close in shore at the conclusion of the work. Considerable interest is being taken in the materials used in the construction of the Hawke's Bay Farmers' Co-op. premises at Napier and the matter has been brought forward by an Auckland architect and asks why there should misrepresentation to boost brick.
