Young Girl Drowned
SWEPT INTO, THE BREAKERS
BODY NOT YET RECOVERED.
(Per Press Association) DUNEDIN, Last Nigfft.
A tragic drowning accident occurred at Tomahawk Beach late this afternoon when a young girl named Rose Isobel Kydd was swept into the breakers and lost her life.
Miss Kydd, who was 17 years of age | and resided with her parents at Luke’s road, Tomahawk, was employed as a domestic! at the Karitane Home. About 5 p.m. in company with a friend named Peggy Braid she W’ent to Tomahawk Beach to bathe. Apparently, however, the girls became separated, for at about 5.20 p.m. Miss Braid came to Miss Kydd’s home, asking if she had come back as she was not on the beach. A search was immediately made for the missing girl, but without avail. It could only be surmised that she had entered the water during the absence of her friend, and had been swept out by the undertow.
The police were communicated with, and Constable Meiklejohn patrolled the beach until nightfall, but no sign of the unfortunate girl’s body was seen, and further search later in the evening was also without result.
