No Help from America

Wall street circles read with interest the London Daily Mail’s Sydney dispatch, printed here, that American trading banks have offered the New South Wales Government 250,090, 600 dollars at Gj per cent., but they treated the news item with considerable scepticism, particularly the phrase in which the banks were alleged to be ready to make the concession of a large loan for the right to do business with Australia.
One of the leading financial figures of America informed the Australian Press Association that any talk of an American loan, no matter w’hat size, would' be premature until- “Australia puts its house in order.’-’ He further pointed out that there was little* likelihood of American trading banks entering on any deal involving the granting of a loan in return for business concessions. . . - • • ■■ ,
