At the invitation of the Scoutmaster (Captain C. Gray), members of the Citizen’s Committee are to inspect the AVaipukurau troop to-morrow evening, after which a meeting of the committee is to be held.
In. this issue the Hawke’s Bay Education Board advises chat applications for probationers will be received until November 15th 1930, for appointment in 1931. Application forms and particulars of qualifications necessary may be obtained on application to the head teacher of each secondary school, Technical school, or District High School.
The attention of readers is drawn to an advertisement of the New Zealand Railway Department featuring happy holidays that can be spent in such places as the Hermitage, Mt Cook, Queenstown, Tongariro National Park and Rotorua. Reservations can now be made for combined rail and motor concessions.
Although the seasonal work is advancing, there is still a fair amount ■ of unemployment amongst all ranks • of farm labour in Hawke’s Bay just now, and shepherds and other general farm hands out of a job are finding it hard to get employment again. A Hawke’s Bay farmer who has just returned from the South Island reports that conditions are even worse down there.
A machine which cuts up wood to .make matches will turn out 40,000 •“splints” on one minute.
