POPULARITY OF MB. CHATWIN

RECIPIENT OF PRESENTATIONS

Last evening members of the executive of the Orphan’s Club and Operatic Society met Mr G. L. Chatwin to say au revoir and wish him all good health and fortune for the future. Mr W. H. L. Williams, vice-chief orphan, on behalf of that Club, presented Mr Chatwin with a fountain pen, and Mr F. V. Ward, as president of the Operatic Society handed the guest a silver cigarette case, suitably inscribed. Both speakers stressed the value of Mr Chatwin’s services to their clubs and said that his departure from Waipukurau was indeed a calamity. iMr Chatwin suitably responded, and in the course of his remarks said he hoped sincerely that the Orphan’s Club, which has gone into recess this year, would next year be functioning as strongly as it had done in past years. He also wished the Operatic Society great success in all future productions.

Last night the members of the Waipukurau Club tendered a complimentary social evening to Mr Chatwin. The gathering was presided over by Mr H. R. Peacock (vice-president), who, during the course of the evening, asked Mr Chatwin to accept a pair of handsome crystal vases as a slight token of the high esteem in which he was held among the rhembers. The speaker also voiced the deep and sincere regret of those present, that Mr Chatwin was leaving Waipukurau, and added that he would be greatly missed by his wide circle of friends. In conclusion Mr Peacock wished Mr Chatwinhealth, happiness a«d prosperity in his now sphere, The remarks, of the chairman were fully endorsed and supplemented by Ilia Worship the Mayor (Mr R. McLean) and Dr. C. Raymond; In a humorous reply pVIr Chatwin suitably acknowledged the gift and the. eulogistic references accorded him.
