Wool Sale
, OFFERING AT TIMARU. RECENT RATES MAINTAINED. (Per Press Association.) TIMARU,, Monday. The first Timaru wool sale of the season was 'held to-day, when catalogues totalling 12,357 bales were submitted. There was a large attendance of buyers, representing all the -main wool interests., Taking it all round the wool did not open up so well as last year, hogget wools particularly carrying .a fair amount of dust and being discoloured. Many also showed signs of tenderness. Last year hogget' wools were particularly robust and well grown, but to-day these were inclined to be thin in the staple. Prices, while being on a parity with those ruling at sales in other centres, showed a drop on last year’s prices, the decline being an average of about' sixpence per pound. Bradford as usual lifted the bulk of the strong wools, being keen buyers up to limits, but no further. The Continental fraternity lifted the bulk of the piece wools, Dominion mills purchased top lots, beingkeen buyers for any bright', well grown clips. Growers in the main were prepared to meet the market, passings at auction being about ten per cent. Following is the official range of prices:— d. d.
