ON SUMMIT ROAD JOB. SCENE OF OTHER ACCIDENTS. (Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. A blasting accident occurred at the Summit road works this afternoon, when a plug of gelignite exploded prematurely. Mr H. Meatman, a married man-and a well-known athlete, was seriously injured. He was head man of a co-opera-tive gang of men employed by the Government on relief work. He was experienced in the use of explosives but apparently used a short length of fuse, which fired while, he was tamping the charge and fuse into the hole. The charge drove the tamping rod through his forearm and injured his face. There have been two previous fatal blasting accidents within recent months ,on the Summit road works.
