AT ADDINGTON STOCK. SALE.
RISE IN BEEF AND MUTTON.
(Per Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. At the weekly Metropolitan market .at Addington to-day, both beef and mutton prices showed increases, on those of last week’s sale. There was a large entry of fat cattle but in the • fat sheep section, there was a short supply, the smallest' for some time. Fat lamb values firmed on recent rates but fat pig prices showed no alteration. Store sheep had an average yarding, with wethers in good supply. The market was much firmer for all classes. "Wethers improved by Is fid to 2s a head. Values were: —Gbod four and 1 six toothed Romney wethers, 25s (id to 275; medium good.four and six too:nod Romney wethers, to 25s fid; good four anffsix toothed halfbred wethers, to 23ir-6d; ordinary halfbreds, to 20s 3d; backward, to 15s; good half bred ewe hoggets (woolly), to 29s 3d; medium Corriedale ewe hoggets (woolly), to 20s; halfbred wether ewe hoggets ("woolly), to 20s lid; halfbred wether ewe hoggets, 15s 7d to ISs 2d; small half bred wether ewe hoggets, to 14s; sound-mouthed ewes "with . lambs (woolly), 15s lOd to 17s; good 2 and 3iooth halfbrpd lambs, to 25s 9d; •Merino wethers (woolly), 7s to Ils 3d. A total of 511 fat lambs were entered, the yarding being much smaller than at recent sales. The market was firmer by up to Is 6d a head. Over a been sale, the average per lb was 9d to 9)d. Fat sheep had a small entry of only about 2500 head and prices for all classes increased on late rates by up to 2s a. head. Extra prime shorn wethers realised to 37s 7d; prime "wethers 32s to 34s 6d; medium, 27s 6d to 31s Cd; light, 22s fid to 33s Id; extra prime shorn ewes, 30s (id to 33s Id; prime, 25s .to 29s fid; ordinary, 22s to 245; light. 19s to 21s 6d; woolly wethers, to 38s 7d; best woolly ewes, to 39s 10d. v cattle had a total entry of ,400 head, with no ‘‘outside” cattle. Prices improved on those of last week's sale by up to £1 a head for all classes, especially the primer sorts. Best medium-weight prime beef (per.lOOlbs) made from 45s to 48s; good mediumweight prime beef, from 42s to 455; heavy steer beef, 41s to 445; good cow beef, to 425; secondary, 34s to 375; light and rough, to 335; store steers, to £22 17s 6d; heavy prime steers, £lB ,10s to £2l 10s; medium-weight prime steers, £l7 15s to £l9; ordinary, £l4 to £l7 ss; light, £ll to £l3; extra, prime heifers, to £l7 2s 6d; prime, £l4 15s to £l6 ss; ordinary, £l3 to £l4 10s; light, £7 10s to £l2; extra prime cows, to £lB 7s 6d; prime, £l4 10s to £l6 10s; medium, £l2 5s to £l4 ss; light and . aged, £8 to £l2. There was a small entry of venterswith few small calves forward. It was a good sale, with little quotable change in recent values. The top price was £7 10s. Good venters made from £4 to £5; best calvers, 45s to 60s; and others, from 10s to 31s. Store cattle had a larger entry than usual and met "with keen competition. Prices were on a par with recent' rates. Two-year-old steers made £8 ss; best cows, up to £8 ss; 18-months heiHi’s, £5 10s 6d to £6 ss; and yearling ydeers, £5 13s 6d to £B. Bulls were in good demand at prices up to £7 13s 6d. A small yarding of dairy cattle' of average quality came forward. Prices /.were much the same as those ruling last week. Values were: Best second and third calvers, to £l3 10s; others, £8 to £l2 10s; good heifers, £ll to ‘£l2 10s; others, £5 to £lO 10s. Fat pigs had a large entry and met with a regular sale. Both porkers and baconers sold on a par with last week’s prices but porkers eased toward the close of the sale. Values were: Choppers, 30s to £6 6s; baconers, £4 5s to £4 16s 6d (average price per lb 61 d to 7-}d); porkers, 42s to 63s (average price per lb 74d to 84d). Store pigs had a medium entry and prices showed a decline of up to 4d on last week’s sale.. Values were: Stores, 28s to 425; slips, 22s to 24s 6d; weaners, 10s to 2.1 s 6d.
