Mr Topi tc Kuru, of Porangahau, Is seriously ill. ; ' ! 1 Miss E. Treacy of the staff of tho Porangahau school, left this morning for Feilding on her holidays. Mrs De Laney, of Pctonc, has been spending a short holiday with her son, Mr R. H. De Laney, of Porangahau. Mr A. M. Mowlem, S.M., is still indisposed, and was unable to take his seat on the bench at yesterday’s sit-* ting of the Napier Court. Mr Tricklebank has returned home to Porangahau after a holiday spent in Wellington. Mr George Glenn the well-known exCentral Hawke’s Bay Rugbyite, and now of Carterton was a visitor to Wai* pukurau to-day. Miss T. Smart, late of the office staff of Dalgety and Co., Hastings, has been appointed to the position of assistant clerk to the Patangata and Waipukurau counties. Mrs Huntley Walker, who was an inmate of the Hospital for some weeks, and in a precarious state of health has continued to improve of late, being enabled during the week-end to return to her home. The funeral of the late Olive Lucy Collins, daughter of Mr and Mrs M. H. Collins, of Hatuma, took place yesterday in Waipukurau, being conducted by the Rev. A. C. McLean, Yf.A.,>at the home of the parents, and the Rev. John Davey of Alasterton at the graveside. Mr Frank O’Donnell, who for a somewhat lengthy period has been undergoing treatment in tho Hospital, is now making excellent progress towards recovery. Mr A. G. McKenzie, a popular member of the staff of the Waipukurau Branch, of the Public Trust Office has rejoined the Napier staff. He will be greatly missed in local cricket and Rugby circles being an able exponent of those pastimes.;
Miss K. McCormick, for a. lengthy period a member of the teaching staff at the Waipukurau District High School, expects; to leave at an early date for Suva, the:capital of the Fiji Islands. The appointment in prospective is that of a' position on the staff of the Girls’ Grammar School. In the New Zealand University law examinations Mr N. C. Wylie of the staff of Messrs Lee, Mackie, Harker and McKay, Waipukurau, gained a pass in the subject of torts, and evidence, and is to be complimented on this further progress in the profession of law. The Borough Council ha.- decided that the office holidays extend from December 24th to January 3rd, both days inclusive. The library is io be closed from December 25th to January 4th inclusive, while the Reading Room is to be closed on December 2<ith, 27th and 28th and January 2nd and 3rd. The outside staff is. to be given two days’ holiday in each week —Xmas and New Year. Mr W. F. O’Donnell, late of Waipukurau, and notv secretary to the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association. has been delegated to represent the Association at 'the Sydney Royal Show'. Mr A. W. Blair, barrister and solicitor, of Wellington, has been offered and accepted one of the vacant judgeships on the Supreme Court Bench. Mr Blair, is a son of the late William Nowsham Blair, formerly engincer-in-ohief of New Zealand, and a man of character and literary attainments. Mr A. W. Blair has had a successful legal career and has during recent years been prominent in the Court work of the old established firm of Chapman, Skcrrctt, Tripp and Wylie, in which he became a partner. He has been twice president of the Wellington. District Law Society.
