TERRITORIAL DRILL.
“The Feliding Chamber of Commerce wrote ro the Te Awamutu Chamber regarding -amended regulations for drill instruction, which substituted the three extra days in camp for the evening or half-day parades. Objection was taken,, on. the grounds that the regulation was made by Order in Council and not by Parliament, because it put the whole burden on the employers. The letter gave rise to a good deal of discussion, and it was recalled that the defence authorities had promised to consult the Chamber before fixing the territorial drill timetable this year, and had at that time clearly evinced a. desire to consider the position of employers as much as possible. It was decided not to endorse the Feilding protest,” observes the "Waipa Post.” The problem is one that gave rise to much discussion, at the monthly meeting of the Waipukurau Chamber, which is seeking further information ere definitely expressing its viewpoint.
