HAWKE’S BAY ANNEX KIRK UUP.
Hawke’s Bay annexed the J. R. Kirk Cup, at Nelson'/Park, ,on 'Easter Monday, when they clef eate, the holders, Poverty Bay, o^The .call .of time, the game ending iff k spectacular manner. From Saturday’s play it appeared that the match wits'going to wear itself out to a.dreary draw, but matters brightened considerably yesterday arternoon, especially when the home side had 20 minutes to play and some 6 Oruns to make to win. Fortuno favoured them, minutes to play and some 60 runs to quired number was hoisted. Hawke’s Bay, continuing their unfinished Saturday ’s innings, ran up 298 against Poverty Bay’e 196. Pirie coming to light with a Useful 57. Wilson, with 5 for 31, secured the bowling honours. Poverty Bay rattled on 175 in their second effort, and left the home side with .74 runs to get. The latter rose to the occasion, but lost five wickets in doing it.
