COUNTY AFFAIRS

’ WAIPUKURAU COUNTY. ENGINEER’S REPORT, The Waipukurau County Overseer (Mr R. B. Price), reported to the monthly] meeting on Saturday as follows:— '

Hatuma Riding.—The sharp turn on Lower Gorge Road has been cut back some sfSt feet and the roadman- has been during the month widening bends etc. in other parts of the riding. Albion truck has delivered 99 yards of shingle on Lower Gorge Road and 15 yards on Alain Highway. Grader has worked 18 days in this riding during the month, 8 days of which went to Alain Highways. Subsidy received for quarter ended September 30, amounted to £65 17s 6.

Alt. Herbert Riding.—Albion truck has delivered 237 yards of screened shingle during the month, 198 on Main Highway and remainder on Middleton Road. The contractor completed metalling on Farm Road early in the month. Grader has worked S days in this riding, 6 of which went to Alain Highway. Subsidy received for quarter ended September 30th 1926 amounted to £lB2 16s 1.

Purimu Riding. —Seeing that there is no possibility of securing a crusher this year I would suggest that red ihetal be delivered on Hamilton’s Road, from Tourcrore to the top of the Hill. This would bo cheaper than crushed limestone for such a small quantity. About 160 yards would make quite a good job. General. —J. P. Bridgeman, lorfy driver was taken to hospital on November 17th and will he unable to resume work until New Year. As usual Albion truck will be overhauled during holidays whenever convenient. This truck has been going continuously all the year only stopping once or twice on account of minor breakages. A pair of new front tyres will be also necessary, the present ones have been running since this time last vear.

Cr AV. J. Edgecombo congratulated the overseer on the excellence of the road work adjacent to Mi‘ McCormick’s property on the Takapau side of the Sanatorium Hill. The overseer stated that the Tourore Road grant could not bo expended at present pending final approval of the. proposed work by the Puplie Work's Department.
