Payne, aged 60 reputedly an American millionaire, occupying, with a paralysed wife, a luxurious flat in the Champs ElyseCs, was checking his acounts with his _wife and housekeeper, Adrienne Henry, when a dispute arose. Payne rushed to a drawer and seized .a revolver and slightly wounded the housekeeper, who ran screaming to the kitchen. Payne followed, firing four shots r. ’-d killing her. He returned to the sitting-roor • and fatally shot his wife, then locked himself in the bedroom, and committed suicide with the revolver. The Paynes recently made a world tour and the husband returned suffering from melancholia.
