SHOOTING SEASON., ACCLIMATISATION' DECISIONS Holding the view that feathered game in Hawke’s Bay> arc gettingsomewhat on the scarce side, and. considering it would he for the betterment of sport in the district, the members of the Hawke’s Bay Acclimatisation Society on Monday evening decided upon a reduction in the length of the shooting season to two months. co;mmencing on May 14, and extending to .Tidy 17. both days inclusive. Members agreed that the season should be a close one for pukokos, the understanding being that anyone with any complaint could make application to the society, who would enquire fully before coming to any decision. As to ducks. Mr Edmundson thought July 31 too late for the close of the season as before that date they were beginning to mate, and to keep the season open was only having a harmful effect on the mating. Mr Painbow: Wo could have a short season. Let us cut a .month off it. Mr Pickett: They arc getting on the scarce side, and. it would be better to reduce the length of the season. The idea of a shorter season appealed to members, and the dates decided on wore from Mav 14 to July 17.
