COMBIITTEE MEETING. ’ GENERAL BUSINESS. The Waipukurau District High School Committee met on Ai.onday night .there being present Messrs IV. G. Bryce (chairman), .J. R. At kins, G. Robinson, T. G. Thompson, ;and W. Adams;, also the Headmaster (Air F. E. Curd). An apology for the absence of Air .1. H. Hindman (secretary), was received CORRESPONDENCE AND GENERAL Oi,■ the motion of Mr Atkins, seconded by Air Robinson, the chairman, secretary, and Headmaster Were appointed as a sub-committee to icply to the Education Board as to the appointment by transfer of a teacher holding a "D” certificate, to fill a vacancy on the permanent staff, one of the present probationary teachers being preferred by the Committee. .3 letter was received from Air W. ,T. Alpe offering to donate a frame*! record of the N.Z. Expeditionary Forces’ service in the Great War. The offer was thankfully accepted on the motion of Mr Adams, seconded by Air Robinson. Satisfaction was expressed as to the advice of the Central Hawke’s Bay Power Board that 50 units of electricity per month would be provided —subject to the peak hours of the Board’s demand being avoided —free for cooking purposes, and the balance at 2*l per unit, where manual instruction is included in the curriculum. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Air Thompson, a vote of thanks was accorded the Board. Miss A. Staffan 7 (Waipawa) wrote enquiring as to the likelihood of an instructor in book-keeping and shorthand. being required for the* Waipukurau District High School, she being engaged teaching these subjects at the Waipawa District High School. Left to the Headmaster to make enquiries as to the basis of such, school instruction. Considerable discussion, initiated by Mr Atkins, ensued in regard to the supply of school stationery and requisites, and eventually on the motion of Mr Adams, seconded by Air Thompson, it was decided that tenders bo called for the supply of same for a, period of 1 year, the Headmaster to prepare the necessary list. The prize-giving ceremony in connection with the presentation of prizes is io take place on the 17th inst at 2 p.m. in the 3luuniciptl Theatre. It was announced that the Supervisor of Agriculture had reported favourably on the work of the school. The purchase of a draught excluder was authorised. Permission was granted for rhe closing of the school for half-a-day to-day in honour of the marriage of Jliss Curd, daughter of the Headmaster, the chairman moving, and 3Fv Thompson . " * seconding. An explanation apropos the apparent |ion-suceess of the application of Vialit to a portion of the school ground was received, and the secretary was delegated to reply to the letter. FINANCIAL BUSINESS. Accounts totalling £l9 7/7 were passed for payment.
