WIMBLEDON HOTEL.

LICENSE LOST. At a meeting of the Pahi/itua Licensing Committee held in the Courthouse at Woodville - yesterday, Air Alowlem, S.3L, presiding, the matter of the Wimbledon Hotel license, adjourned from June and August meetings/was finally deal th with. The evidence of the police stated that the whole of the exterior of the hotel, together with the out-buildings, required repainting, and the hot-water tank required renewing. There has also been a serious shortage of water. This latter shortage, however, could be overcome by the erection of a tank at a spring which is situated about six chains away from the hotel, and then conveying the water in pipes to the hotel. Constable Aloss, of Porangahau, called stated that he had inspected the hotel on December 4th, and found that the walls of the building had received 1 coat of paint but the tanks and stands, stable, fences and half of an outbuilding had not ben painted. He was informed that the painters had done more than the owner, Donald AleLeod, had instructed them to do. The walls of the hotel looked very shoddy only having received one coat of paint, and the fence, outbuildings, etc., looked very unsightly not having been painted at all. Altogether the painting was a botch job. No attempt had been made to improve the water supply from the spring, on the hill. There was no excuse for not having the work done as the roads had been good all the winter and plenty of labour had been offering. Constable Skinner, clerk of the Licensing Committee, was called and proved all notices had been served on the owner (Donald AleLeod) and the licensee (Wm. Love.) The chairman (Air AFowlem) said that he considered that the committee had been ignored by both the owner and the licensee and the committee decided that as the work had not been completed to the satisfaction of the police and the committee, not to grant a renewal of the license. The present license expires on December 31st, 1926.
