CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday.
The first day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Cup meeting was held on Saturday. The weather was fine, but a strong nor’-wester was blowing. The course was in good order. The totalisatir investments were £57,385 10/-, against £62, 922. Results:

The Auckland Racing Club’s spring meeting was opened to-day in dull weather. There was a good attendance, including the Governor-General. The track.was holding as a result of recent rain. The totalisator handled £56,767 10/- for eight races, compared with £58,245 for seven races on the corresponding day last year. Results: Gordon Handicap. —First Division:..! Clams. 3 Wenday 2, 4 New Moon 3. Great Northern Guineas. —1 Lysanoer 1, 3 Tinokoa 2/2 Chamour 3. Shorts Handicap. —8 Kingficld I, 11 Chairman. 2, 2 York Abbey 3. Michelson Cup.—s Star Ranger (Goldboro) 1, 1 Eden Hall 2, 2 Mandanc 3. Also ran: 8 Te Monanui, 4 Mask, 9 Ruapapa, 1 Nippy, 7 Lord Star, 6 Barometer, 10 Gold Jacket, 11 Boomerday; 12 Mucari, 3 Auru Mavis. Boom.erday led into the straight, but at the distance Star Ranger camo through to win by a neck from Eden Hall, with Mandane a length away.
