LOCAL AFFAIRS

LOWER GORGE ROAD.

OVERTURES TO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Waipukurau Borough and the Waipukurau Chamber of Commerce wrote to the Waipukurau County Council as to the desirability of the Council ascertaining from the Public Works Department the cost of providing the desired survey of the proposed deviation of the Lower Gorge Road, involving improvement of the highway from Waipukurau to Takapau (at present passing over the Sanatorium Hill), and the road to Onga Onga, by eliminating a steep bluft, also laying down a better surface.

Cr McCormick moved that a request be made for a Departmental estimate of the cost of the survey, the chairman seconding the motion, which was carried.

The matter camo before the County Council, on Saturday, at its monthly meeting.
