DAIRY CONTROL

LONDON RESENTMENT.

(Received this day, 9.15 a.m.)

LONDON, Nov. 7.

The New Zealand Control Board’s action in fixing the price of butter at 148/- and 150/- a hundredweight caused resentment on the market amounting to suggestions of a boycott. Mr Gouch, Overseas Farmers’ representative, interviewed, said the talk of boycott is “hot air.” During recent slackness the buyers had not bothered to discriminate because of a few shillings difference between Australia and New Zealand butter. Present retail prices arc. still low, and practically stifle the Dominion trade, which is now only a fifth of normal. Present supplies are chiefly from Ireland and the Continent. Control docs not affect the real position, the problem being to dispose of New Zealand quantities stored in Britain. Mr Grounds said the boycott report was untrue,, inspired by the opposition for propaganda purposes. Sales were as normal as could be expected in the present state of depression. So far as New Zealand is concerned there is nothing to be dissatisfied about.
