HEAVY TRAFFIC.
ALLOCATION OF FEES.
At the monthly meeting on Saturday, the chairman of the Waipukurau County Council referred to the recent settlement as to the allocation of li cense fees. He could not determine who had been responsible for the decision arrived at, and remarked upon the fact that the terms agreed upon had not been fixed at a full conference of delegates. Weber had been well treated—on a5O per cent preferential basis as to capital value, and Patangata 15 per cent. ..Mr Scannell (solicitor) had represented the Patangata and Waipukurau counties in the matter of appearing before the Court. The boroughs had not expected a third, and they could not be blamed, for the (allocation fi'xed.. The delegates had returned " homv, and „somo persons, not the delegates as a whole, had agreed to the. basis of settlementpublished. He had no knowledge on whose authority the allocations had been made. The H.B. County Council had. scored on a mileage basis. The position was very unsatisfactory.
Cr L. M. Monckton agreed that a protest should be made, and seconded a motion to this effect, proposed by the chairman .
