TERRIBLE TRAGEDY.
<s> MOTHER’S CONFESSION. SYDNEY, Thia Day. At the inquest .on the Chcetham children, whose tragic end was cabled on the 13th inst., the statement made by Mrs Chcetham to the police was read. She said she had been much worried over the failure of business, and thought the neighbours were jeering m her, also blaming her for neglecting the children on account of business. She also believed a warrant was out lor het arrest on account of such neglect &>i n went to th? Police Court to satisfy herself on the point. The police advise.her husband to take her to a brain specialist. Thinking her brain was soft, she decided to kill the children if she could not work for them, rather than that they should have brains like her s. After her husband departed for work on the day of the tragedy, she got ar axe and made Nellie kneel and close her eyes; then she hit her twice on the head. Afterwards she took th? baby and chopped its head off. also SvdnrvX head off, then tried to cut her own throat, but the knife was too blunt. The doctor who saw the woman after the tragedy considered her to be demented. She was committed for trial on a charge of murder.
