SATURDAY NIGHT DANCES.
HAVE BECAME A SCANDAL. BISHOP BANNS THEM. Dr O’Dochrty, CathoQc Bishop or Galway and Kilmacduagh, has pronounced a formal bann on the Saturday night dances in his dioceses-, and forbids Cartholics to organise or take part in them, ‘Should this formal prohibition be ignored, I shall make the offence rer erred to a reserved sin in the first place and, if that is not sufficient, I shad use the further powers which Christ and His Church have placed in my hands ”
The bishop says he protested gainst, the craze for dancing last year. He then made it plain that he had no serious quarrel with occasionti dances of a modest kind under proper supervision.
“The Saturday n ght dances had become a scandal. They were abandoned for a time, but I am pained to observe that they have been introduced once more.”
