MUSIC IN SCHOOLS.
GRAMOPHONE AND RECORDS FOR LOCAL SCHOOL. COMMITTEE MOVING FOR PIANO, The matter of music in schools was brought up again at the meeting of the school committee on Monday when several members urged that a gramophone should be procured for the school. The secretary (Mr J. H. reported that a local firm were willing to grant one to the school at a substantial reduction. a Members thought that the offer ’ should be “snapped” and records purchased, A sum consistent with the stated reduction was passed for the purchase of the gramophone and £5 was voted for the purchase of records. The matter of a school piano was then brought up. The chairmaii reported that the Board would subsid.se purchase money on pianos £ for £ up to £4O, The committee had £5O in hand and with the subsidy this would make £9O for a The Board is to be asked for subsidy up to £4.0 and it was resolved that the matter of the purchase of a piano Da held over till the result of the application for subsidy was available. Messrs W. G. Bryce and F B. Curd and Miss Caughley are to make enquiries regarding an instrument as soon as tn® Board's reply is received.
