BOROUGH COUNCILLORS ON OUR ' .CEMETERY NOTHING DONE IN MATTER. .. “It is a positive disgrace.” “The most disgraceful thing I have ever seen.” “The worst in New Zealand.” These and like remarks were made at the meeting of the Council on. Monday in regard to the state of the cemetery. Cr. Harker was the first to advance the matter remarking while the matter of decorating the 'streets was under discussion that he would rather see the money spent on the cemetery. He was immediately reminded by the Mayor, however, that the question of the state of the cemetery had nothing to do with the matter under discussion.

Later in the meeting the matter was again advanced. “Well I think that if we can do that,” said Cr. Byfordi referring to some work the Engineer urged should be carried out “before the holidays we should put someone on to the Cemetery

Cr. Harker: Hear, hear. It is a positive disgrace. Later in the meeting when the Mayor called for general business Cr. Hamer said “What about the Cemetery, It is the most disgraceful thing I Fave ever seen.”

His Worship the Alayor (Air E. A. Goodgor): Well, how are you going to deal with it. AVe have advertised for labour twice and got no reply, Cr. Harker: You will have’ such a grass fire there as you ever saw one of these days The Alayor: AVell I move that the matter be left in the hands of Cr. Harker to engage the men and get the work carried out. Cr. Harker: (Oh, I have something else to do. . He urged that the Engineer should attend to the work. The Engineer stated that the men could not be spared for the work. Cr. Harker: Oh, it is all very well to make excuses but the fact stands that nowhere else in New Zealand have we a cemetery like ours. The matter went no further.
