Jottings Russian experts do not believe .the Germans c.nn overcome the allied defence at the vital points Sn the frontier. The Germans are issuing rifles to civilians to hold down Russians in Germany and compelling the latter to harvest the crops. They also [declare they will annexe Belgium and establish a naval base on the I coast. The Russians claim that they can spare men enough to invest Konigs-

berg—the principal German fortress ou the eastern border—and leave it behind them. The Kroupriuz 'VVilhilm. a luge German liner, has filled up wth provisions and coal, and is lying in the mid-Atlantic to act as a wireless transmitting station.
