COAL TROUBLES IN ENGLAND.

STEEL WORKS CLOSE DOWN

London, Jan. 16.

The North-Eastern steel works at Middlesborough are closed owing to lack of coal, due to the trouble with the miners. Two thousand men are rendered idle. The miners’ dispute is crippling the Teesdale iron trade, and several factories in Northumberland are also closed, refusing to pay higher prices for coal. The strike is resulting in increased activity in the German collieries, Westphalian mines benefiting by large orders for factory coals which are ordinarily placed in England.
