The Stock Markets.

PAHTATUA. Abraham & William?, Ltd., report : At our opening sale of the year at Pahiatua, on Tuesday, we had a very good yarding of both sheep and cattle. Competition for all classes" of sloc;k was not keen, owing, no doffbt, partly to the threatened strike of the freezing companies’ slaughtermen. We managed, however. to dispose of the bulk of the yarding. Quotations:— .

Sheep. 2-tooth ewes (small), 11s Gd; 4,6, and s.m'. ewes, lls Gd; s.m. ewes, 10s 3d; fat ewes, Ss 10d; woolley aged ewes, 8s to 9s Gd ; 2-tooth wethers, 9s.

Cattle. - 3-year steers, £4 7s 6d; weaner steers, 23s 6d; fat cows, £8 17s fid to £4 ss; forward cows, £3 2s to £3 15s; store cows, £2 7s Gd to £2 15s; springing heifers, £8 10s to £4; cows, in milk, £5 to £0 ; cows and calves, £3 7s 6d to .€3 17s fid; heifers in calf, £3 7s 6d ; empty heifers, £2 18s to £3 3s ; bulls, £2 15s to £3 10s. Horses. —Unbroken, £2 to £6 7s fid. JOHNSON VILLE. Abraham & Williams, Ltd., report : -We offered a good yarding of sheep and cattle which sold at late rates. Best bullocks, £8 5s to £8 7s Gd; lighter, £8; good wethers, 12s fid; ewes, 10s fid; plain ewes, 9s to 9s fid; prime lambs, 10s 3d to 10s fid; medium, 9s 9d; plain, 9s; porkers, £1 Is to £1 7s. ADDINGTON. There were good entries of stock, and a large attendance. Store sheep were without change, fat lambs were firmer, and fat sheep, especially wethers, sold well. Pat cattle were easier, and pigs w’ere in only moderate demand. There was a fair demand for store and dairy cattle. There •was a small entry of store sheep, made up of wethers and lambsThere was a fair demand, especially for wethers in good condition and rape lambs.

Sheep.—Prime wethers, I4s 6d to 17s; lighter, 13s 2d to 14s; prime ewes, 11s 6d to 13s 6d; extras, 15s 3d; others, 8s 6d to lls; merino wethers, 9s 2d. Fat cattle. —Steers made £6 lls to £11; heifers, £5 12s 6d to £8 10s, and cows £5 to £6 10s, equal to 20s to 21s 6d for prime ; 18s 6d to 19s 6d for medium; and 17s to 18s for cow and inferior, per 1001 b. Store cattle.—Yearlings made 20s ;15 to 18 months 28s to 355; two-year steers £3 2s 6d; two-year heifers £3 ss; 21-year-steers £4 17s 6d; 3-year heifers, £3 18s to £4 ! ss; dry cows, 30s to £3 12s 6d; and dairy cows, £3 to £8 10s. Pigs.—Choppers sold up to 40s; heavy baconers, 43s to 465; lighter, 34s to 425, equal to 3£d per lb; large porkers, 32s to 38s; lighter, 25s to 30s, equal to 4|dper lb; medium stores, 16s to 225; and weaners, 6s to 10s 6d. PALMERSTON. Abraham & Williams, Ltd., report: — Yesterday we offered good yardings of botli sheep and j cattle. Sheep were very dull of sale, and were practically all passed in under the hammer. We managed to quit a good line of wethers privately. Cattle met with a very brisk sale, and we have to report a total clearance- We offered several very nice lines of fat heifers on account of Mr C. E. Tattersall, Kairanga, which made from £4 3s 6d to £5 Is'. A line of forward bullocks on account of the same vendor realised £6 2s, and truck of fat bullocks, £7. We quote - Sheep.—2-tooth forward wethers, 9s 6d ; fat ewes, 9s. Cattle. —Forward bullocks, £6 2s; light fat bullocks, £7; steers from £4 7s 6d to £4 12s 6d; fat speyed heifers, £5 Is, £5 0s 6d, £4 3s 6d; fat cows, £4 19s; Ayrshire heifers in calf, £3; weaners, £1 to £1 3s 6d; springing heifers, £3 16s; store cows, 30s to £3 13s; bulls, £1 to £2 2s 6d; cows in milk £3 to £4.

The 0. C. & D- Company cable the following frozen meat prices;— Napier, Wellington and North Island mutton, 8-|(l; lamb, first 4£d, second ojjd ; beef, hinds 3d, fores 2|d.

Wool Sales.

Antwerp, Jan. 12. The wool sales were animatedj there being a large attendance of English buyers. Merinos advanced five centimes, and there was a lively demand for crossbreds, prices being fully fifteen centimes above■ November rates. Two thousand six hundred and forty-eight bales were offered and 1564 cleared.
