Pahlatua District Court.
THE WOODVILLE ASSAULT CASE. The case in which Alexander Campbell was arraigned on a charge of having assaulted John Foley in the passage of the Masonic Hotel, Woodville, came before the District Court at Pahiatua on Wednesday. Mr W. Tosswill prosecuted, and Mr E. J. Gothard appeared for accused. The evidence adduced was similar to that given in the court at Woodville on the occasion of the fiyst enquiry. After being locked up for some hours, the jury returned a verdict of guilty of common assault. Accused was admitted to six months’ probation conditionally on his paying £5 at stalements towards the cost of the prosecution. INDECENT ASSAULT. Two youths named William Beaufort and George Little were charged with an indecent assault upon a young woman. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of common assault, and the two accused were sentenced to Six weeks’imprisonment in Wellington gaol.
