Wellington, January 18. A middle-aged man named Robert Parkinson, employed by the Tourist Department, dropped dead this morning. Deceased served in South Africa with one of the Contingents. Alexander Allan, the ra Iway employee who met with an accident at Petone about two weeks ago, died yesterday in the Wellington Hospital. Deceased leaves a widow and ten childre,n mostly grown. Auckland, Jan. 18. Satnnel Finch, formerly belonging to the Seventh Contingent, was charged with failing to show a ticket or leave the lawn at Ellesmere race-course, with assaulting ihe constable who ordered him off the course, and using obscene lan. guagp. He was fined with costs, .£l3 ss. The Magistrate took a lenient view of accused promising never to enter a racecourse again and 10 abstain from liquor. Whilst ramb ing in the Botanical Gardens yesterday, two citizens found the body of Allred Cooper, an aerated water maker of Wellington. Death must have taken place three months ago The bead was detached from the trunk and the hands from the arms. Practically the body was in pieces. A bottle containing liquid was found near the body. Deceased was 55 years of age. Christchurch, Jan. 18. Mrs Louisa Finneity was rim over by a steam tram in Moorhotne Avenue this morning. Both legs were smashed and the body mangled. The woman was removed to the Hospital in a dying condition, and subsequently expired. Blenheim, Jan. 18. Mr Best, local representative of the Budge Whitworth cycle agency, was conveyed to the hospital ns a result of an accident last night. Whilst he was riding into town on his motor cycle, at about 25 miles an hour, he ran into a trap which approached him on the wrong side of the road. The horse was killed immediately, and Mr Best was seriously injured. He is progressing favourably. The occupants of the trap escaped without injury. Hokitika, Jan. 18. Mr Mark Cohen, editor of the Dunedin Evening Star, who had been on an extended visit to the district, was entertained by the combined pressmen of Westland at a complimentary social this evening. In reply to the toast of his health, the visitor gave it as his opinion tint the West Coast, with its varied and great resources and scenic attractions, was destined to attract in the near future thousands of tourists, and curry a large population. Invercargill, Jan. 18. Thomas Bailes was sentenced to two months with hard labor for using obscene language in a railway carriage He and another man were drinking on a train and came to blows. The passengers had to leave the carriage on account of their conduct.
