Wellington, June 7. The Monowai, on her arrival from Lyttleton this morning, was detained in the stream and tl® passengers were examined. They were allowed to land on the special condition to report themselves every 24 boars, and those for the West Coast were allowed to transport on a like condition. The vessel was fumigated and the cabin occnpied by the Lyttleton patient was sealed np. If the case tarns oat not to be One of plague the vessel will be allowed to come alongside. The barque Jessie Osborne, the cargo of which was on fire at (be wool wharf some weeks ago, sailed for East London last night. It transpires that on Thursday night what is considered to be a deliberate attempt to set fire to the vessel was made as she lay in the stream. Cheistchuch, Jane 7. At a meeting of the Pharmaceutical Association a resolution was carried that it be a recommendation to the pharmaceutical chemists of Christchurch and snbnrbs to discontinue forthwith the giving of prescription-books to medical practitioners, and that a copy of the resolution be sent to medical men. Dunedin, Jane 7. Dr Emily Siedelberg, the only female physician in Dnnedin, was thrown oat of a trap yesterday and had three ribs broken and contnsiou about the body. Otherwise her injuries are more painful than serions. Peter Murray, aged 66 years, apparently drove into a baker’s cart on Tuesday night at Hooper’s Inlet, Otago Peninsula, and fractured several of his ribs. Inflammation set in and be died yesterday. Auckland, Jane 7. An old age pensioner named John Boyd was found shot in the chest last night outside his wbare at Hobsonville. A revolver was found alongside deceased. He was agumdigger and lived alone. It is snpposed to be a case o f suicide. Masterton, This day. Settlers in the back blocks are beginning to bold indignation meetings protesting against the habitual neglect of road requirements of settlers. It is stated that narrow bridle tracks have been made where metalled roads were required, and now when the settlers are ready to borrow in order to metal they are informed that no money is available for widening, though the money had previously been voted.
