Woodville Borough Council.

The monthly meeting of the Woodville Borough Council was held last oveniug. Fiesem—His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Motley), aud Crs Troup, Tay'or, Sandei, Grinlinton, JVloisti-ith and Heme. The mmuißS of the previous meeting were read and continued. Leave of absence wiß granted to Cr Burnett. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was received and dealt with : From the Town Clerk, notifying the election of Messrs Grinlinton, Burnett and Monteith. —.Received. From the Minister of Railways, stating that in view of more urgently required works, the question of a subway at the foot of Ross Street must stand over. —Received. From the Tawn Clerk, Baunevirke, asking for information as to the Borough solicitor.—lnformation to be supplied by the Clerk. From the Land and lucome-Tax Department, stating that the Department cannot certify for the additional subsidy of £-17 12s 6d asked for by the Council.—The Mayor said that the Council had always received a subsidy on the actual amount of rates collected. The letter was contrary to the opinion expressed by Mr Martin, the solicitor to the Municipal Association.—lt was decided to send the Valuer-General a copy of Mr Martiti's opinion, together with a request for the balance of £47 12s 6d. From John McVay, stating that he considered the Borough rate a most iniquitous one, aDd that he did not know the Council had gone in for a system of land nationalisation.—Received.

From H. Sowry, asking that G. Harding's name be substituted for his oo the rate-book iu respect of section 22, sub-section 23.--Kequest granted. From Stuart Robertson, engineer N.Z. Electrical Syndicate, Auckland, giving information as to the cost of lighting the Borough, making the total co3t £920 a year, revenue from same £IOOO a year, profit to the Borough £BO a year.— Received. From Poundkeeper and Hanger forwarding reports.—Received. From R. E. Grinlinton, asking for a small drain in Amelia Street to carry surface water to the watertable.—After some discussion permission was given to Mr Grinlinton to himself place the drain across the footpath subject to the approval of the Wciks Committee. A building permit wa3 granted to Mr Home for alterations to a cottage. KEPORT. The Works Committee reported that the various matters referred to them at last meeting had been attended to. Cr Taylor moved, and Cr Troup seconded, " That the matter of the drain ia Fergus6on Street near Mr Riches' property be left over for the present."—Carried, The matter of the Borough reserve rents was disoussed, and a statement of the amounts owing was laid before the Council. Cr Taylor moved, and Cr Monteith seconded, " That the lessees of the Borough reserves ba notified that unless their rents are paid within one month they will be sued for the amount."—Carried. The report of the Works Committee was adopted. TENDERS. The following tenders were received for the lease of the Cemetery reserve :--J. Pinfold, £4 6s; E. Gilas, £4 -is; W. Lovell, £1 10s. The tender of W. Lovell was accepted. THE BAND ROTUNDA. Cr Taylor brought up the matter of the Band Rotunda being roofed in. He said the matter had been mentioned to him by the Bandmaster, who pointed out that the Band would play out much oftener if the rotunda was covered in. He thought that portion of the cost might be collected by the Council from entertainments by the Band. He moved, " That the matter be referred to the W T orks Committee with power to call tenders for the work." Thß motion lapsed, not being seconded. GENERAL. Cr Troup brought up the matter of clearing the Manga-atua creek in accordance with the arrangement made with the Waipawa County Council. He moved, " That £8 be expended in cutting the logs in tb6 Manga-atua creek." There was no seconder, and the motion lapsed. ACCOUNTS amounting to £7615s 9d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned,
