THE CHAMPION STAKES IX MELISOUIINK.
Wallace (by Carbine).and Quiver I (by Trenton) ran a dead heat for the above stakes. Preston (by Robinson Crusoe) being third. Auraria was the only other starter. The betting was 7 to -1 on Wallace 3 to 1 ngainst Quiver 5 to 1 Auraria and 12 to 1 Preston. Wallace ran very gamely. WANOANUI ItACES. Second Day.—Fin day. The second dny's races was -well attended, and speculation very brisk. The sum of £6137 was put through the totalisator, making a total of £12,317 for the two days. Following are the results: Harrison Memorial Stakes.—Orion and A3one dead heat 1, Laura 3. Dividends, Orion £3 Is; Acone £3 14 s. Second Hurdle Race.—Dante 1, Narrate 2, Rangapai 3. Waituna fell and brought down Liberator. Dividend £8 ss. Second Hack Hardies was won by Clayton, who paid a dividend of £4. Napoleon fell, and his rider. F. Iliad, was severely shaken. Wanganui Stakes, of 150 sovs, 11 miles. Saracen 1, Ngatuero 2, Fabulist 3. A protest entered against the winner for inconsistent running the previous day was disallowed. Time 2.10. Dividend £2 10s. Nursery Handicap.—Armilla 1, Decoration 2, Si Paid 3. Dividend £2 12?. Autumn Handicap.—Acone 1, Searchlight 3, St Laura 8. Dividend £8 ss.
The Se-on 1 Hack Race was won by Carrick, who paid £5 ss. Farewell •' landicap.-Sedgebrook 1, Swift 2, Johnny Faa 3. Dividend £3 12 .
