Woodville School.

<» INSPECTOR HILL'S REPORT. The following is Inspector Hill's report of the Woodville School examination held May 20th to 23rd, 1895:

Considering the irregular attendance of a large proportion of the children who attend this school, considerable progress has been made during the year in most of the Standard classes. The pass subjects in the lower Standards are much better prepared, and there is a growing emulation among the children that promises well for the future. Arithmetic and composition are the two weak subjects in Standard IV., and in a less degree in Standards V. and VI., but in other respects these Standards have done much better than last year. Writing and drawing have made the greatest advance, whilst the reading, dictation, and spelling are fairly good. Among the class subjects grammar and mental arithmetic should receive increased attention during the coming year. In the additional subjects the school has passed a creditable examination, drill, calisthenics, and singing being well and carefully taught. Although the Junior Department has worked for a large portion of the year under many difficulties, it is pleasing to find a pronounced improvement both in tone and general management. The syllabus of instruction has been considerably widened, and already the results are of a very promising character. The teaching is well adapted to the preparation of a good foundation for Standard pupils, and increased efficiency may be expected during the coming year. The answering of the children showed intelligent and careful training.
