The Examiner. (PUBLISHED DAILY.) SATURDAY, FEB. 13, 1892. THE EKETAHUNA MURDER.
The nows conveyed in our columns yesterday of the murder at Eketaliuna must have been a shock to the community. That a man .should be deliberately robbed and murdered on the public highway in this district is a dire calamity, showing, as it does, the presence of undesirable characters in the settlement. We have no doubt the culprits will, in this case, be brought to justice. The deed could not have boon done in a locality
under the control of better police officers, and the chances of escape were poor with two such able officers as Detective Herbert and Constable Roche on their truck. In the interest of the community every oii’ort should he made to make an example of the murderer. On the certainty of discovery and vengeance in its train rests one of the greatest safeguards to the community. No such axvfnl crime should go unavenged, every care, of course, being taken that the innocent do not suffer for the guilty.
