Large quantities of ashes were discharged, but no mud. Ashes are falling here. The volcano can be heard firing off its guns, but it is not visible, owing to the d nse clouds over the mountain.

Telegrams from Taupo announce that Ngaru 00, an active cone on Mount Tongariro, burst in eruption early- - on Sunday morning. A Native named Heta was riding near by at the time, and felt the ground sudddenly trenude. Then a great uimbling was heard. ■> The mountain shook, and all at once an enormous volume of flame, stones, and smoke was thrown from the crater high into the air. The outbreak was similar to that at Tarawera, except that no mud was sent out of the crater.

The mountain continued to bslch forth at intervals on Sunday, and grey dust fell. - -

Ngaruhoe is about 10 miles from the Tokonau settlement.

One of the guides who ascended the mountain a few days ago is of opinion that Ngaruhoe will be blown to pieces.
