(Special to Examiner. Pahiatua, This Bay. The Comity Council will, in future where practicable, use pipe culverts. The plans for (lie Maugaouc Valley Hoad, for which tenders arc called, show that pipes will be used there in the culverts. A concert will be held on Friday, the 12th iust, in the Public Hall, for the benefit of Mrs Quarterman, whose husband was killed at the railway works at, Newman. Tickets are selling freely, and the object is one worthy of support A meeting is to bo held in the Public’ Hall on Wednesday evening, to take steps to form a Swimming Club, and to arrange to hold aquatic sports. Mr Wilson is the convenor, and there is not the least doubt the project is one that will bo of great benefit to the young people, and will encourage them to become perfect in the art of swimming. Last evening a most unseemly melee took place in the main street, and language unfit for the ears of females was freely indulged in. Tn these cases the guardian of the peace is always ablaut.
