Death of Mr Wm. Stewart.

We regret to have to announce the death after a short illness of Mr Wm. Stewart, formerly the landlord of the Pahiatua Hotel. Since leaving the hotel deceased has lived with his brother at Hawera, where he took ill less than a week ago. At first the trouble was looked upon as influenza, later however the disease took a more serious turn, culminating in inflammation of the lungs. Death occurred at about 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon. Deceased during his residence in Pahiatua had, by his kind and genial disposition, won the respect of all, and the news of his sudden demise conies as a shock to every one. He was 40 years of age, and leaves a wife and young family for whom heartfelt sympathy is expressed on all sides. The funeral takes place on Sunday, and will leave the Hawera Hotel for the Mangataiuoko cemetery at 10 a.m. The Foresters lodge will meet at 1 o’clock and join the cortege as it passes about that hour.

Our Eketahuna representative wires that yesterday morning it was understood that Mr W. Stewart had quite recovered from his influenza. At 2 p.m. he had a relapse, and at 3.30 p.m. was deadA notification requiring brethren of the Lodge Ruahine, E.C., to assemble at the Woodville lodge room at 7 o’clock tomorning to attend the funeral, will be found elsewhere.
