Wellington Education Board.
This Board met at Wellington yesterday. Present —Messrs J. R, Blair (chairman), W. W. McCar de, G. Beetham, J. Young, F. H. Fraser, A. W. Brown, Dr Newman, M.H.R., and Rev. J. Paterson. The recommendation of Messrs Brown and Fraser that a nine-acre section offered at Kaitawa as a school site be accepted, was agreed to. The pay-sheet, amounting to £2371 5s lid, was passed for payment. With regard to six applications from teachers for leave it was decided that the Chairman should consult with the headmasters and local committees on the subject, and only grant leave in those cases where satisfactory arrangements, ■ ooqld be made for carrying on the Vfork O
It was decided that Miss Miller, of the Fahiatua school, should be sent to Otaki as pupil teacher. Consideration of the question that the Board should arrange for (he importation of school books and supply them to committees at cost price, which was brought before the Board by the Masierton School Committee, was deferred aniil next meeting. Dr Newrunn gave notice that he would move that the Government be requested to take into consideration the question of the coat of scl 00l books, with the view of lessening it. . The Board approved of an application from the Mauriceville Committee that the school library should be converted into a public library, but it was pointed out that there would be no power to make a charge to the outside putlic for the books, although donations could be received. It was resolved that any scholar under 15 years of age on the Ist of October should be eligible to compete for the scholarship examinations. . , Theßoard adjourned until December lb.
