♦ ' THE FINANCIAL PANIC. THE BANKS REASSURED. London, Nov. 20. The Governor of the Bank of England assured a meeting of bankers to- day that there was nothing to justify the panic. The Bank, he said, is in a strong position, and would freely support the credit of tho .Bankers, who are.now reassured PARNELL’S POSITION. HIS RESIGNATION DEMANDED. London, Nov. 18. The Press and public opinion are strongly adverse to Mr Parnell retaining .the leadership of the Irish party. The Times, commenting on the result of the divorce case, remarks that no leading statesman could survive such a blow as Mr Parnell has received. The Standaru says that the leadership of the party will be untenable if Mr Parnell refuses to resign. . . ~ The National Leagne insists upon Mr Parnell remaining the leader of the Irish party. Steps ere being taken to erase Mr Parnell’s name from the roll of Edinburgh, the freedom of which city was conferred on him some short time ago.
