Tit for Tat. At a recent reception held by Baronness Burdctt-Coutts, Mme. Patti sang the “Latter Aria” from “Don Juan,” after having executed several bravura pieces. At its close a small old lady stepped up to her and said : “ In fieritura none can equal you, but Mozart seemed hurried to mein your interpretation. Now, that you may not fancy I speak of your singing as the blind man does of colours, I will mention my name : Jenny Lind Goldschmidt. ” Mdme. Patti seemed slightly disturbed by this cool censure, but quietly retorted : “ I know you were once a celebrated singer. Grandfather used to speak of you.” After this reply Jenny Lind returned to her place at the hostess’ side without another word.
