At Sydney meat market yesterday we learn by cable that beef realised 3Gs per lOOlbs, and mutton averaged 2Jd per lb. A cable from Sydney states that Paladin won the September Handicap at the Hawkesbury Kaces, and Burrilda the Purse. Mr Burnett had a very good meeting at Ormoiidville ;GO took the pledge. At Norsewood there was a big meeting. At Danevirke last night Mr Yonnghusband took the chair, and 7G pledges were taken The meeting was rather noisy. A meeting was held last night rc the flooding of the land by the overflow of the Maunga-atua and the adjoining creeks. The report is crowded out, but it may be stated that it was decided to ask the County Council and the Maungaatua Eoad Board to co-operate with the settlers in clearing the water-courses. In mentioning the result of a temperance meeting at Campbelltown, the Advocate says:—Two or three of the parents who are members cf the Plymouth Brethren have, however, reduced the number of Mr Burnett’s converts, having burnt their children’s cards and blue ribbon. It is one of the tenets of this entremely peculiar people that temperance is not taught in the Bible, and that, therefore, its practice is inconsistent with Christianity.
