THE WOOL SALES. London, Doc. 2. The present series of wool auctions will close to-morrow. There have been 130,000 bales sold since the commencement of the series, and 21,000 bales hold over for next sales. At to-day's auction there was good competition, and the various lots offered were disposed of at full current rates. THE ENGLISH ELECTIONS. London, December 3. The county elections are still proceeding. The total returns so far give the Liberals at 40 ahead. The Liberals are gaining many of the country constituencies for which Conservative members were returned at the last elections. The balance of parties in the home counties is unchanged. December 4. The latest election returns show that 268 Liberals, 213 Conservatives, and 54 Parnellites have been elected up to the present. Mr Joseph Chamberlain addressed a public meeting at Leicester last evening. In the course of his speech he referred to the probable state of parties in the new Parliament, and predicted that fresh elections would take place at no distant date after the assembling of Parliament. The total number of members of the House of Commons elected up to the present is 500. The Liberals have a majority over the Conservatives of 54. December 5. The Liberal candidates continue to triumph in the farming counties. For Lancashire the Conservatives only secured two seats ont of seven. For Invernesshire Mr C. F. Mackintosh, the representative of the crofters, has defeated Sir Kenneth Mackenzie, and Mr McLeod, a crofter candidate, has also secured the Argyleshire sent. The elections will finish on Wednesday next, the 9th inst. BULGARIA AND ROUMELIA. Sofia, Dec. 3. A large public meeting was held yesterday at Phillippopohs. Resolutions were adopted emphatically re-rtflirming the union of Bulgaria and Iloumelia. ARABS STILL FIGHTING. London, Dec. 2. Information received from Cairo states that 5000 rebel Arabs are attacking Knoskay. The 2nd battalion of the of tlie Essex Regiment will be sent to reinforce the British garrison. RISE IN FROZEN MUTTON. December 5. Now Zealand frozen mutton has increased in value, and to-day realised from 4Jd to 5d per lb in Smithfield Market. ADVANCE IN WHEAT. London, Dec. 3. New Zealand wheat shows an advance of 2s per 4961hs for the higher grades, and prices now obtainable are 28s to 36s ex store, according to quality. AUSTRALIAN NEWS. RETURN OF THE NEW GUiNEA EXPLORING PARTY. Sydnky. Dec. 4. The members of the Geographical Society's exploring party have arrived here and met with a heaity reception, a large number of people assembling to meet the steamer. Captain Everill, the lender of the expedition, has made public some details of his operations in New Guinea. The parly ascended the Fly river to a distance of 400 miles from its month. They report that some portions of the country are densely populated, but the natives maintained a very unfriendly attitude throughout. Captain Everill obtained some good specimens of native timbers, but he states that he mot with no signs of gold, silver, or galena. The only animals he encountered were kangaroos and pigs.
