RESPECT FOR THE DEAD.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, Coming through from Palmerston to Woodville on foot my sensitive nerves were disturbed by the unwanton negligence in the authorities that have got the care of the Palmerston Cemetery. The hour was between six and seven in the morning and numerous sheep were basking in the delight of a morning's sun over new made graves. My object in sending these few lines is that being a party who has relations interred in the said cemetery together with others that has been afflicted like myself. I made a passing inspection of the fence that surrounds the graveyard, and I have come to the final conclusion that the sheep were driven in by some party or parties as the ground abounds with rich surface grass composed of clover and other fattening propensities. I trust, Mr Editor, that you will insert these few lines and that your contemporary in Palmerston will take the necessary steps in checking such a disgraceful affair which throws reflection on the township at large.— am, &c.
