WOODVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY.
The annual meeting of subscribers to the Library was hold at the Schools orrl last night. There was a very poor attendance. Mr Crawford occupied the chair, and rend the annual report and balance-sheet, which has already appeared in our columns. The Chairman slated that j there was a credit balance of Ll 7 1-is lid, On the motion of Mr Haggon, seconded by Mr Hogg, the report was adopted, j The following were elected members of I Committee : Messrs Crawford, Hogg, Jackson, Horne, Jlaggen, J, Hutchins, and Morison. Mr Crawford said he would do all he could to procure a building. If they Ml 1 tried to do something they might succeed. } He suggested for the present having a 1 cot time. ! Mr Hogg agreed with the suggestion of ; the Chairman, and proposed, That a can- | vassing committee be formed to obtain : subscriptions, with a view to erecting a building. Mr Horne seconded the. motion, which was carried. In reply to Mr Hug;; the Chairman said the first lot of books hail been pro--1 cured from Mtube's, and the next lot i were bought from Crag’s, in Mapier. I Mr Haggen suggested sending a parcel lof books into Heretaunga, under tho 1 charge yf Mr Bailantino, for the use of tho , settlers there, and renewing it from time 1 to time. 1 1 Mr Hogg proposed, That the committee 1 be a canvassing cuimuiliee, with power* ta , added to their number, and that Mr Crawford draw up tlio necessary lists. On the motion of Hal!, seconded by Mr Haggen, u vote of thanks was passed to tho outgoing Committee. . j Mr Haggen proposed Thai a hearty vote of Bunks be passed to Mr Jackson . for having taken charge of the Inroks dur--1 iug the past few months, and for* life , trouble he had been at in ■ . them. , On the motion of Mr Jackson,seconded by Mr Hogg, Mr Crawford was elected Chairman and Treasurer, and Mr J. Hutchins Secretary for the ensuing voir, j It was decided that the Committee meet on th ■ 20th April. Mr Jackson was r--appointed Librarian, on tho motion of Mr 11 egg, seconded by Mr Haggen. ! On the motion of Mr Haggen, it was ro--1 solved that tho Chairman and Mr Hogg , be a sub-committee to present Miss Jackson. on behalf of the Committee, with a • oken M recognition of the services she had rendered the i stituuon in tho exchange of the subserilxn-s’ books, j Mr Jackson said the number of the subscribers had been doubled since tho present arrangement had bo m made. It was decided, on tbe motion of MV Hogg, to meet on tho last Monday of each month. Mr J. Hutchins kindly offered the use j of « room in his bouse for the meetings of 1 Committee. I On the motion of Mr Hogg, a hearty , vote of thanks was passed to Mr Hutchins j for his offer. A vote of thanks to tho Chair concluded the meeting.
