October 29, 1883. A meeting of settlers of the proposed Mangatua. School district was held on Monday evening, at the Residence of VVi]li,iua Elliott.hlsq. Mr George Hulch* instead some correspenco botwen himself and H. Hill Esq, Inspector of Schools, with reference to the foiling of five Bcres of bush, which has been sat a.‘.ida for school purposes. The meeting, which was well attended, appointed a committee of the following gentlemen viz., Mr t Goorge;llutohins, Mr.W. Hull, and Mr J. Ebbett, empowering them to let the Bush felling and; arrange with the Wobdville School Committee for a ddllned boundary line, so as to get the the Mangatua gazetted a school district tby December 31st. The schoel is much needed, as a {great number of children have to travel nearly five miles to the Woodville school, or otherwise receive no education whatever. As there are not the requisite number of children for starting a sbhool, viz., 30 of school age, the, sellers have to fall the bush at their own expense. The other groat want of this place is a post oflico of some kind, as there are 20 families who have to go five miles for their letters, if wc do not get those much needed want* supplied at once, we hope to have it when the new block of land is opened for settlement which is be* tween us and the Matai Iwi.
