Auckland, Wednesday., The Fiji Conaul has received intimation that the Fiji Government cannot afford to contribute towards the subsidy for the San Francisco mail at present. , - ; The Presbyterian Assembly has resolved to accept the proposal of the Otago Synod for using the University as an ecclesiastical college, and a committee was appointed to confer with the Otago committee regarding the union of the Assembly. A regret was expressed that Otago was unrepresented afc the meeting upon a trivial excuse. Messrs Hill and Elmslie were appointed a deputation to attend the Dunedin Sydnod to express regret at the absence of Otago. .

At the Presbyterian Assembly, Bruce'a motion with regard to the burial and marriage services, led to an animated discussion. Several clergymen said, it was a step towards Episcopacy. Elmslie, of Wanganui, moved the previous question, which was carried by 13 against 12. The second Sabbath in May has been appointed as the day upon which sermons are to be preached against intemperance.
